Things are looking good for season 13. I can't wait to see the Scooby episode.

I'm glad that Mary's not dead, but I hope they bring her back quickly-- though I fear they won't. It does look like they'll be making use of the alternate reality and alternate characters, which is cool. It's almost a given that Castiel will be back, but it's a shame that Crowley is gone for good, right on the verge of getting some interesting character development.

I'm also psyched about the Sheriff Jody spinoff.

What has me thinking is this: If Mary and Lucifer are trapped in an alternate universe, where there are alternate versions of themselves, does that mean there is an alternate version of Chuck and Amara? :conf:

That's a really good question. You'd think they'd be only one of each of Chuck and Amara, since they are supposedly the Creators-- but if there is only one Lucifer, then you'd think he'd know about alternate dimensions. Or did "Chuck" create different "family" in each universe? Maybe that's why things turned out differently.

No wonder Chuck is an absentee, deadbeat father.

Kind of a slow start to the season, I thought, but the highlight was Dean's desperate, unanswered prayer to Chuck. He is truly overwhelmed by loss at this point, even wishing for the return of Crowley. But at least I got my wish that Mary is still alive, which was a pleasant surprise.

Jack is pretty much what I expected: An impulsive innocent with great powers that he finds difficult to control. Sam wants to nurture him and Dean wants to kill him. No surprises there.

One surprise is that the sherrif's kid survived the Angel attack, making me wonder if he will return. I liked the actor who played him.

And the Angel said that Castiel is truly dead this time, and they burned his body. I wonder what they have up their sleeves to bring him back. Hopefully something more clever than Mirror Castiel.

I'm not surprised the kid survived, considering he was stabbed in the lower abdomen and not in the chest. The fact that the sword had no effect on Jack is amazing. I expected Mary to have survived, considering she and Lucifer made it through the portal, which I'm positive we saw at the end of Season 12.

Assuming Castiel does return, I'm thinking he's from the other universe or could be in a flashback.

I got to thinking the show has not dealt with the fact Dean killed Death. Also, the Winchesters took out Billie, and we haven't seen any references to the "consequences" Billie mentioned when they altered the deal.

Yeah, both the death of Death and Billie need to be dealt with. I hope we don't get alternate Castiel, although it would give the actor a chance to play yet another spin on the character, but it would be nice to see more of alternate Bobby.

Well, that was a pretty good episode. It looks like Donatello might be sticking around for a while as a supporting character, which is fine with me. He was able to confirm that Jack is not inherently dark, so now we're just dealing with nature versus nurture (and, undoubtedly, the power corrupts paradigm). It was quite a startling (and telling) moment when Dean came upon Jack trying to kill himself-- I thought this would change Dean's mind about the kid, but not even close. It seems like Dean may be doing more harm than good, but it was Dean that Jack was imitating. And the conversation between Dean and the faux waitress may have been foreshadowing.

Asmodeus, the Prince-- and now acting King-- of Hell is finger lickin' good. I wonder what made him decide to possess Colonel Sanders. And where is he now? Did jack send him back to Hell, or the other side of the universe, or what?

And I wonder if those whatsits from the pit are ever going to actually get released. Those arms were pretty creepy. :D

The glimpses into the other universe are very tantalizing and I wonder where they're going to go with it. I love the gravel landscape, with the random bodies and skeletons and the occasional belfry. Alternate Michael seems considerably more mighty than Lucifer, but needs him-- for what, I wonder. And does the alternate universe also have an alternate Chuck or did the One Chuck create the multiverse?

Dean's attitude toward Jack is a problem. Dean seems to forget he befriended a vampire while in Purgatory and protected him all the same when the two returned to earth. Castiel saw the good in Jack, which should mean something. I didn't think Jack had anything to do with Asmodeus's disappearance. I figured Asmodeus blinked away, knowing he was in a bad position. I am surprised the angels haven't appeared yet, considering they seem to be good at hunting down Nephalem.

I was impressed with Lucifer's ability to smite angels with a snap of his fingers, because every other time he's had to fight them. I'm thinking Michael has to defeat someone else in the other universe, hence the reason why he need's Lucifer. Is there a reason we haven't seen demons in the other universe? I can't remember if they've all been wiped out or not. Either way, I'm liking what has been presented so far, for this season.

Good point. That's possible.

I think those were Angels last week at the jail.

I'm thinking Michael has to defeat someone else in the other universe, hence the reason why he need's Lucifer.

Yeah, but who could be that powerful? Ah, I just had a thought. Maybe it's alternate-universe Jack.

Isn't the wasteland the result of a war between Angels and Demons?

They were. I figured the angels would be out in greater numbers, thereby expediting Sam and Dean's need to return to The Bunker ASAP.

It is, but have the Demons been exterminated? I don't remember.

I don't either, but the war seems to be ongoing. Unless it is now just the Angels versus... something else. Maybe Alternate Jack. Maybe our Jack's fate will be to destroy his Evil Twin, in an act of mutual destruction.

I can't believe they brought back Missouri after thirteen years just to kill her off. Why do they keep doing that? Damn it!

Other than that, I did mostly like the episode. I don't mind Sam and Dean fighting over Jack, because both of their positions are understandable-- Dean is kind of stupid for saying these things right in front of the kid, but this is the guy who's so broken that he prayed to Chuck to bring back Crowley while punching his knuckles raw against a wall. And I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who can relate to sitting in the dark listening to their parents fight over them, so it's a pretty strong metaphor.

And it did make me pretty excited for The Jody Show. I like Patience. She's cute and she ripped the spike off a Wraith. :D

And there's Cass, somewhere in a black void like an old episode of Star Trek. Is this where all the Angels who got Angel-bladed went, or is Cass special?

I would expect he'd have encountered other Angels, or other Angels would have found him by now. I think Dean is being a dick because he is operating off of a flawed premise of guilt by association and refusing to see the facts as Sam presents them.

A thought occurred to me last night that it would be ultra cool of Mary encountered the alternate John Winchester.

I thought about that, too-- also if Castiel encountered him in the big black void place that has a floor. Unfortunately, I think Daddy Winchester is too busy with the Zombie Apocalypse at the moment to make an appearance.

Well, that was interesting. It was a good, old-fashioned monster-hunting episode that led to a fake therapy session which turned into a real therapy session-- looks like Dean is finally starting to deal, and may be starting to accept that Jack can be a good guy. And we have another good monster. Mia is an interesting character who's not dead-- I wonder how long it will be before they kill her off.

And Cass is back, after a rather surreal encounter with the sleepy guardian of The Big Empty, who apparently pre-dates Chuck and Amara and wants nothing more than to spend timeless eternity napping. Perhaps his name is Dagwood. Dagwood is oddly playful and well-versed in the vernacular for something that has been slumbering since the creation of the universe, but also angry and stubborn-- and takes the form of Cass because his real body is too freaky deaky for Cass to see. Although Dagwood refuses to send Castiel back to Earth, Cass does indeed appear in a sunny field at the end of the episode.

Still no update on what's happening in the alternate universe, though. It's been a couple of weeks now.
