it was fascinating to watch - though i must admit i am guilty of NOT doing very much laundry or any chores... i went to hang out laundry and spotted a blob on the wall - and sure enough, after yesterdays discoloration, Butty had emerged. I stuck a finger near her, she stepped on, so i plopped it on a leaf and on the windowsill in the sunlight to dry faster....then i had to go out to work, so popped the leaf in the azalea under the kitchen window - when i got home an hour later she had flown off....fascinating for me, i knew already they had to dry their wings before flying - BUT I never knew before that drying them meant little drops of red water then clear water being excreted....um, unless the red/clear blobs are butterfly pee rather than wing dryings????

Great pictures. Nice camouflage in the last one-- it took me a minute to find her.

You're a Butterfly Midwife. :D

I don't know, but that is pretty fascinating. I didn't know they had to dry out. That must be a very vulnerable time for butterflies who hatch in the wild.

Here's some shot I took up in the mountains yesterday and last weekend.

First up the Big Bear Solar Observatory.
Image

The lakeside.
Image

Still a lot of snow on the higher peaks.
Image

The recent rains and snow has put water back in the little creek behind the Faire site. I took this over the back fence. Pity the property doesn't extend a little further in that direction. A little creek at the Faire would be great.
Image

The goblin rock on the south side of the lake. :Ahhh:

Sweet. Have you ever been inside? What goes on there?

The lakeside.

Fantastic view, and I love that dead tree trunk.

Still a lot of snow on the higher peaks.

That must be a fantastic area to roam around in.

Yeah. They could have Robin Hood versus Friar Tuck competitions. :D

The goblin rock on the south side of the lake. :Ahhh:

Wow. Who turned the goblin to stone?

Never been inside the observatory as the gate always seems to be locked whenever I get there.

That's very suspicious. What unholy experiments are they performing out there?

Kind of interesting how it was on land when they started building it and out in the water by the time they finished.

This was the view from HQ at about 8oclock this morning:

You may remember that just on the other side of the river is the Southeast Expressway and the Boston skyline-- completely invisible this morning.

^Depending what route you took to the Faire, you probably could see it out on the lake.

Here's a shot from 2013 (it's on the right hand side of the pic).

Very cool. I love the clothes, and the shops, and the lake and mountains in the background. It looks like it would be a pleasant place to live. Is that a piano-like instrument in the first picture?

So I have been making a few decorations for the Steampunk Event in Big Bear.

First off, this is the painting of my mother's which I based one of my works on.
Image

And this is my interpretation. This is about 99% done.
Image

Not as happy with the Cheshire Cat and I have some more work to do here.

Nice. Very abstract.

Very cool. You could probably sell those for good money if you can make a bunch.

Actually, if you could put that on something clear, like a sheet of plexiglass or something, it would look great as is.
