Interesting. I'm using Createspace and am under the assumption that I can use it to print hard copies of books and create a kindle version as well. Do I need to go to Kindleprint for that?

My position is now 324. Slow day.

It can be kind of cool when there's some distance between you and the story. Then you get to read it and see it more like others do.

scottydog wrote:Createspace reviewed my Richmond Heroes book pdf & cover and said there were no errors. So I've ordered a printed proof copy which should arrive in the mail next week. This is my first self-published book and so I'm both nervous and excited.

Groovy. Let us know when it goes on sale.

Will do!

What's the significance of being 324 in the queue?

Not necessarily. But you could have used Amazon's Kindle to print a hardcopy as well.

Holy shit, out of the blue I'm in the Top Ten for the Handmaid's Tale! I'm in shock. I thought for sure it was long over.

Congratulations. I hope you get some good publicity out of it. :book:

Well, when the count gets down to zero that means they read my story and send me a rejection notice.

I did a little editing on what little I have on Kamchatka yesterday. I had gone to Baen's website to see what books they were coming out with and read a couple of sample chapters. Felt better about my writing after that. I've either reached the point that my writing is better than a lot of published books, or my ego has gone out of control.

I swear 99% of getting published is who you know. Having skill means nothing if you can't grease the right palms.

I think there may be overlap there.

I guess I'm doomed. I don't know anybody and I got no grease.

^^ Most of us are doomed. The only reason I've been able to publish a few academic books is because I knew people who did and was able to co-author with them.

But now I'm trying to self-publish for the first time. It's a quirky process. For example, I'm putting together the Kindle version of this Richmond Heroes book and uploaded the Rich Text Format version. When I previewed it, a lot of the text gets wrapped around from page to page in weird ways. It doesn't look quite right in spots.

Any suggestions? Thanks

^What word processor are you using? With Kindle I found it to be trial and error- mostly error.

I saved the RTF document from Adobe InDesign. Do you think I need to import that document into Word and clean it up there?

Sigil's good for organizing if you need it to be easy but not look too pretty.

I use Sigil for my ebooks. It's pretty easy to learn and use. I use WordPerfect for my word processor, so I basically exports the stories or poems as HTML and then import them into Sigil. It comes out pretty good.

I only have one more scene to go and then I am done writing this monster. Nearly 290K words in two months is kinda nuts.

Coincidentally, I was just reading how Heinlein wrote a novel in thirteen days. I'd be happy with twice that.
