The update thread (or, what is now working)

Postby Renie » Thu Aug 21, 2008 6:10 pm

Avatars are now working.

Smilies still need to be updated. Fear not! :)

The styles still need to be updated.

The style has been updated, but since the style was written in an old version of phpBB3, it has caused some problems in transferring it to this version.

However, it looks like the logins work now, and I'm not sure about the signatures but someone should try again! :)

Avatars and sigs, yes-- Smileys, no. :D

Well, a couple of Smileys are working but I seem to be expressing inappropriate emotions. :-D

I get the same two smilies.

The pages are loading much slower here than they did in the previous board, though Cayla said that they were loading faster for her :? .

The only speed problem I had on the old board was getting back to the main menu after making a post, and that seems to have resolved here. I wonder how it will work for mudshark if he comes back; he was having speed problems all around. It's weird how it's different for everybody.....

I'm not having any speed problems with this site. And the only problem I had before was loading the index page. Not now.

No issues. Everything seems to be running pretty quickly here. Aside from the smiley selection being text I haven't really seen any issues.

One thing I have noticed is that, where previously (old board) what you hadn't read or marked read on one visit would remain Unread until the next visit, now they all seem to be automatically marked Read at the end of each visit.

Kinda liked it the old way, to be honest, but I'll deal.

That's probably a setting that can be changed by Renie when she works on the board again-- or by one of us when we get our Mod and Admin powers back.

I was having the same problems using my home computer, but not all the time. It became more frequent about two weeks before the site went down.

At work I noticed it only being slow when I would go to the index page.

Okay, I've added a bunch more of our favorite Smileys. If you don't see what you want yet, tell me and I'll do that one next. I also cleaned up the little Smiley Quick Menu to the right of the posting box. Tell me what you think should be there, too.

We should also be thinking about what Forums we want; I'll do some work on that this weekend. I'm going to bring back Science & Technology, for one thing. jgc, do you want Sports back?

All other thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

It's not like we had a lot of Sports conversations, but yes, I'd like it back. It's getting close to World Series time and football is already in pre-season....

Yes. please. :D

It would be nice to have the Sports Forum again. What was the Forum where we were posting pictures? Was it Visual Arts? I liked that one.

Okay, smilies have been updated even further. A good deal of them are back to their original size, but I still have a ways to go, and more to add... :wayne: :silly: :squirrel: :lab: :morning: :banned:
